Pop Up Shop Series

The Embassy of Haiti in Washington, DC has embarked on a mission to offer American audiences and the international community a new approach toward engaging in the Haiti conversation, with an emphasis on businesses and entrepreneurship. A key vehicle in this effort is the newly created initiative, “Pop-Up Shop Series – Rebuilding Haiti Through Entrepreneurship.” The series will feature products from Haitian-American designers and entrepreneurs. It is part of the Embassy’s larger effort to change the negative perception often associated with Haiti, and to dismantle the charity paradigm that creates a level of dependency on international aid.

“This initiative aims to create an environment where businesses can grow and thrive. The only gift that will keep on giving is the opportunity for entrepreneurs to market their products and services and get a return on it, not the constant dependency on international aid,” said Ambassador Altidor, Haitian Ambassador to the U.S. during an interview with Gayle Trotter from Right In DC.
Periodically, the renovated historic Chancery will transform into a marketplace to offer the general public an opportunity to (re)discover Haitian products, interact with the designers behind the brand, and more importantly, to purchase the items.
We invite you, your friends and family members to join us at one our future pop-up shops.
