On January 16, Ambassador Altidor welcomed the members of ColorComm, Women of Color in Communications, to the Embassy for their New Year reception.
In his welcome remarks, the Ambassador highlighted that although many people associate Haiti with a need for charity, Haiti is an open field of endless opportunities. He invited the guests to travel to Haiti and discover its rich culture and warm hospitality. The Ambassador also spotlighted the 210th anniversary of Haiti’s independence, which is a universal heritage.
In addition, special guest speaker Karen Finney, of MSNBC’s “Disrupt with Karen Finney”, encouraged the attendees to get involved in politics, even explore the option of running for elected offices. She emphasized that getting those positions is only half the battle, and it’s what they do once they’re in that is the real challenge.
ColorComm, which is based in Washington, D.C., with chapters in Chicago and New York, is the only membership organization exclusively for women of color in communications. Its members are some of the most powerful women in the communications industry, leaders in the workplace as well as in the community. ColorComm offers a unique opportunity for women to share experiences and learn from one another to enhance their personal and professional development.
This event was one in a series being hosted by the Embassy of Haiti in Washington D.C. to further its objective of presenting different perspectives of the country & of Haitian culture.
