On Friday February 2, 2018, the Embassy of Haiti was pleased to host members of Things to Do DC and Embassy Experiences for a special Haitian cultural celebration at the historic Chancery. Over 300 professionals from the Washington metropolitan area and from diverse disciplines were welcomed by senior diplomats and guided throughout the Embassy’s current exhibits, including an exhibit showcasing the contributions of individuals of Haitian descent to the advancement of American society. The guests enjoyed a curated buffet of traditional Haitian cuisine and the Embassy’s signature cocktail infused with rum Barbancourt. Throughout the evening, the guests were entertained by a professional Haitian-American dance company, Les Belles Danseuses, through a series of traditional dances.
The evening was co-organized as part of the Embassy’s larger objective to introduce a country that’s rich in culture and history. This was echoed during Ambassador Paul Altidor’s closing remarks when he seized the opportunity to invite the guests to join the movement to change the Haiti narrative.
