Dear distinguished attendees,
It was truly a pleasure to host you all at the Haitian Embassy for the 12th annual Haitian Ladies Brunch on Sunday, October 8, 2017. This year’s brunch certainly wouldn’t have been such a success without the presence of Manman Junior, a Haitian woman who reminds us of our own mothers in some way. Her lively performance created a sense of nostalgia, reminding us of the unique and humorous qualities shared amongst Haitian mothers across the board; and highlighting the commonalities of our Haitian upbringing regardless of where we brought up.
For this edition of the brunch, the Embassy was filled with the sound of music exalting Haitian women, the poto mitan or pillars of our society. This expression has remained constant for our mothers and I am certain it’s a gift that will continue to be passed down from generation to generation. In that regard, I was elated to meet many of you who have already begun establishing yourselves as pillars in your respective fields. I encourage you to keep striving and serving your communities.
One of the more alluring aspects of the Haitian Ladies Brunch is undoubtedly the food. I would like to thank Brie Catering for the delectable dishes and Melissa Heurtelou for the aesthetically captivating and delicious cake. The food was evidently coupled with a variety of drinks, including kremas, and I would like to thank Royal Cremas for the generous provision of complimentary servings of this national drink for the brunch.
I would also like to thank the Haitian Ladies Weekend Host Committee for this fruitful partnership that has made the Haitian Embassy the official home for the annual brunch. Last, but most certainly not least, thank you for spending your Sunday with us. May you always remember that the Embassy is a family and a platform to stay connected with one another and with Haiti. Above all, I hope you will continue to engage in the reshaping of Haiti’s narrative.
I am pleased to inform that the Embassy is in the process of archiving the memories created at past brunches throughout the years. I invite you to submit your photos at the following link for inclusion in the publication.
Warmest Regards,
Ambassador Paul Altidor
