First Lady of Haiti Recalls Washington, DC Visit to Support the Country and Address the Current Realities on the Ground

EMBASSY OF HAITI IN WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Monday, June 24, 2019, the Embassy of Haiti was informed of the cancellation of the First Lady of Haiti’s travel to Washington, DC to participate in the 10th Annual Caribbean Heritage Month Celebration. The decision came after considerable thought and analysis of the country’s current realities. First Lady Martine Étienne Joseph Moïse, who is known for her support and commitment towards the underprivileged and the deep knowledge of the economic and social reality, decided to cancel her trip as an effort to stand beside her husband and the nation while the country addresses the current realities on the ground during this challenging period.

As Honorary President of the “Fondasyon Klere Ayiti,” Mrs. Moïse dedicates her best efforts towards the foundation’s commitment to work for the well-being and fulfilment of all Haitians (health, community development, women’s empowerment). The First Lady extends her deepest regrets for her absence at such an honorable occasion and reassures the Diaspora community that a time will come when we uplift our culture together and promote women empowerment.

The Embassy will continue the partnership with Haiti Renewal Alliance (HRA) and Karib Nation, and participate in the 10th Annual Caribbean Heritage Month this week. For an opportunity to join the week-long celebration, please see below:
