Allegations of Human Rights Violations by Congress of the United States
EMBASSY OF HAITI IN WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Embassy of the Republic of Haiti wishes to thank the Congress of the United States for its concerns regarding the current social, economical, and political climate in the Republic of Haiti. While the State is facing various challenges, including political unrest, it is not to be confused with human rights violations. The Embassy categorically denies all allegations of human rights violations. We find the accusations made by Congress in the letter to Department of State on March 20, 2019, both baseless and meritless.
The State of Haiti promotes and encourages dissenting views by all of its citizens, hence we are in full compliance with all international and domestic laws that protect the dignity of all Haitians. Furthermore, as a democratic State, the protection of all human remains our first priority.
Given the long history and strong bonds that tie the two oldest republics in the Americas, the government of Haiti reiterates its wish to work more closely with its American counterpart to address all concerns.

L’Ambassade d’Haïti aux Etats-Unis rejette les allégations de violations
des droits de l’homme par le Congrès des États-Unis
AMBASSADE D’HAITI, WASHINGTON, D.C. – L’Ambassade de la République d’Haïti aux Etats-Unis prend acte des préoccupations exprimées par des membres du Congrès des États-Unis concernant le climat social, économique et politique de la République d’Haïti. Il est évident que la jeune démocratie d’Haïti est confrontée à divers défis qui ne datent pas d’hier et qu’elle continue d’adresser avec l’aide de ses partenaires. Cependant, il serait inapproprié de parler de violations systématiques des droits de l’homme en Haïti. Au contraire, le pays a fait d’énormes progrès dans le domaine des droits civils et politiques, comme le montrent les récents rapports des organisations internationales. Aussi, les accusations formulées par des membres du Congrès des Etats-Unis dans leur correspondance au Département d’Etat, en date du 20 mars 2019, ne reflètent pas la réalité sur le terrain en Haïti.
L’État d’Haïti respecte et encourage les opinions divergentes de tous ses citoyens, en accord avec les lois nationales et internationales qui protègent la dignité de tous les Haïtiens. En tant qu’État démocratique, la protection de tous les êtres humains est notre priorité principale.
Compte tenu de la longue histoire et des liens étroits qui unissent les deux plus anciennes républiques des Amériques, le gouvernement d’Haïti réitère son souhait de travailler plus étroitement avec le gouvernement des Etats-Unis en vue de répondre à toutes les préoccupations.
