Today, we remember…
It has been seven years since one of the most devastating natural disasters in recorded history struck the nation of Haiti. The earthquake of January 12, 2010 left behind immense physical damage and profound psychological scars. The mutual solidarity of Haitians both at home and abroad, as well as the outpouring support of the international community, testifies to the importance of living in service towards one another. It is this same solidarity and fraternity that allowed many to outlast the 35 devastating seconds of January 12 and the difficult moments thereafter. May we continue to move forward as we honor the commitment to rise from the challenges that face our nation, together.
The Embassy of Haiti in Washington, DC invites you to join us at 4:53 p.m. EST today for a moment of silence in remembering the lives and honoring the memories of the thousands of men, women and children who were permanently silenced.
